About Ukrainian Village Chicago

Ukrainian Village is a relatively small neighborhood, part of the West Town Chicago area. It was originally built by Germans after the Chicago Fire destroyed a big part of the city in 1871. Soon after, Ukrainian migrants moved into the neighborhood and they rapidly became the predominant group in the community. A lot of them worked in construction and in various other crafts, and they built some of the more opulent mansions for their wealthier neighbors in Wicker Park. Today, Ukrainian Village has transitioned from a working-class neighborhood to more of a mix of young families, professionals, hipsters, and of course, the Ukrainian community in Chicago. It has a very cozy feeling, with a good selection of neighborhood [bars], [restaurants], and shops. It’s close to all the action happening in downtown Chicago, but far enough for the residents to come back to a more peaceful environment. There’s also plenty to see in Ukranian Village for the more culturally minded. There’s the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, the [Ukrainian National Museum], and the Ukrainian Cultural Center. Additionally, it’s home to two of Chicago’s largest Ukrainian Churches, the St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Church of Saints Volodymyr and Olha. If you’re interested in making a move to the neighborhood, you can learn more about Ukrainian Village real estate.
